The ESAB – EB146 Basic Welding Electrode (E7018, 2.5 mm × 350 mm, 4.3 kg pack, ~171 pcs) is designed for demanding structural welding applications requiring high strength and reliability. Classified as AWS E7018, it provides a minimum tensile strength of 70,000 psi and features a low-hydrogen, iron-powder coating that produces crack-resistant welds with diffusible hydrogen below 3 ml/100 g. It operates on AC or DC+ (reverse polarity) with a recommended current range of 70–110 A.
The EB146 electrode supports all welding positions, including vertical-up and vertical-down fillet welding, and produces a stable arc with low spatter and easily removable slag for clean welds. To preserve its low-hydrogen characteristics, it should be re-dried at 350°C for 2 hours before use.
Common applications include shipbuilding, offshore structures, bridges, cranes, pylons, heavy structural beams, pressure vessels, industrial machinery, and power generation equipment.
Each pack contains approximately 171 electrodes (2.5 mm × 350 mm) with a total weight of 4.3 kg. The electrode complies with AWS E7018 H4R and EN ISO 2560-A: E 38 3 B 42 H5 standards and holds multiple approvals including ABS, CE, DNV, GL, PRS, TÜV, and UDT. Typical weld metal composition includes 0.07% C, 0.40% Si, and 0.80% Mn, ensuring balanced mechanical performance.
