Epoxy floor paint Alcolin is a two-component epoxy paint system that hardens to achieve a semi-gloss finish, resistant to wear, abrasion, and chemicals, and easy to clean.

Alcolin Epoxy Floor Paint is a two-component epoxy paint system that cures to a hard wearing, abrasion resistant and chemical resistant semi-gloss finish that is easy to clean, making it ideal for sealing of cementitious floors in interior applications in high traffic areas such as warehouse, factory and residential garage floors. Alcolin Epoxy Floor Paint is water based and its low odour on curing makes it suitable for use in sensitive areas such as hospitals and certain food processing plants.

General information :

Features & Benefits

  • Epoxy based – abrasion and chemical resistant.
  • 1:1 mixing ratio (by volume) – easy to use.
  • Semi-gloss finish – improves floor aesthetics and washability.
  • Hard wearing – Improves floor durability.
  • Can be used as a green concrete primer.

Applications

Alcolin Epoxy Floor Paint is suitable as a protective top coat for cement-based screeds and self-levelling screeds to improve abrasion resistance and chemical resistance. It is ideal for sealing of floors in interior application in high traffic areas such as warehouse and factory floors, indoor parking facilities, residential garage floors, dairies and milking parlors, and many other light commercial and industrial maintenance applications. Also suitable as a primer for polyurethane and acrylic coating. Can be used over green concrete as a primer to improve the cure of the concrete.

Adhesion

Bonds to a variety of substrates such as masonry, concrete, damp concrete, metal and stone.

Limitations

Not suitable for exterior applications. Chalking will occur.

Exposure to direct sunlight will cause yellowing and deterioration of the coating over time.

Not suitable for prolonged exposure to acids. We recommend in such applications to protect with a suitable top coat such as Alcolin Protective Top Coat.

Not suitable for use over vinyl flooring, quarry tiles or granolithic concrete.

Not suitable for use in areas subject to rising damp.

Not suitable for cold storage rooms.

Surface preparation

Site conditions should comply with the latest SABS Standards editions: SABS 021 (Code of Practice for the Waterproofing of Buildings including damp-proofing and vapour barrier installation), SANS 10109-2:2004 (Concrete Floors Part 2: Finishes to concrete floors).

Surfaces must be firm and free of flaking paint, dust, mould oil, grease, wax polish and organic growth.

Smooth, hard surfaces such as power floated and off shutter concrete, must acid etched or mechanically abraded prior to application to ensure a sound key for the paint.

Acid etched surfaces must be neutralised with a solution of ammonia and water prior to application of the paint.

Fresh concrete should be 5 days old. The Epoxy Paint can be applied onto the concrete providing that initial set has started and there is no standing / pooling water over the surface.

Friable and chalking surfaces should be primed with a coat of Alcolin Permokey Slurry Kit and treated with at least a 3mm coating of Alcolin Z100 / Z101 floor screed.

Old painted surfaces must be mechanically abraded and all the paint removed.

Dry surfaces should be lightly dampened with water, and painted with a coating of epoxy paint diluted with 10-15% water (approx. 500ml water for 5L epoxy mix).

Surfaces must be free of standing water prior to application of the paint.

Directions for use

Mix by hand or use a mechanical mixer such as a slow electric drill fitted with a suitable paddle.

Pre-stir the base thoroughly.

If adding an additional tinting, do so into the base at this stage.

Pre-stir the activator.

Add the entire activator to the base and stir for at least 5 minutes ensuring that both components have been completely dispersed into each other and a uniform colour and consistency has been achieved.

Remix immediately before use.

Apply with a suitable short hair mohair roller or paint brush. If entrapped air in the substrate causes foaming, continue rolling until this disappears.

Roll to an even thickness, cross roll to avoid roller joint marks. Maintain a wet edge at all times and complete the entire floor in a single operation.

Keep coats thin as thicker coats can result in delamination and will also take longer to set.

Do not attempt to rework or tamper with any partially set product

A second coat should only be applied once the first coat is touch dry.

For enhanced anti slip properties swimming pool filter grade silica sand can be lightly sprinkled over the epoxy paint while still wet. Excess sand must then be swept away once the paint has cured.

When coating large areas, ensure that product from the same batch is used.

Cleaning

Tools can be cleaned with water and soap when the paint is still wet. Allow any unused product to set before discarding in a suitable container.

Product packaging: 1 x 2.5L Activator, 1 x 2.5L Base. Total mix of the pack is 5L.
